PUB TRIAL - JOIN US AT THE VIRGIN QUEEN

Hey goals,

We are two weeks into our month long trial of post training pub drinks at The Virgin Queen. It's a lovely queer friendly pub, close to training AND it has a games room with a pool table, darts & many a board game.

They are very keen for our regularly weekly custom so have offered us the following:

- Plates of hot food (chips, halloumi fries... maybe even padron peppers etc)

- £5 larger on tap

- 10% off all drinks

- Private use of the back room

- Four large outdoor tables

So please join us (even if you're not training) to celebrate this month long trial and have your say in where we spend our Wednesday evenings.  By Sept we will get a good idea of what the new Persy set up is etc and can then vote on where our permanent pub home will be xx

PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS

A bumper crop of match reports this week - enjoy!

Sunday All Stars (28 July)

GDFC All Stars were undefeated with a nail-biting draw and a tasty win. Gorgeous team play from a bunch of goals who are truly ALL stars.  Katy Covell was player of the match for stunning defence & an equally stunning goal. While Kate won The Tony Award for digging deep. Shout out to Dan for the Tony Award itself. And shout out to Tony too?

Saturday Clubs United League (3 August)

Babe City were relentless from the off but GDFC brought the energy and vibes to pull off a 4-2 win. Shout out to Ellen for scoring two of these, and everyone else for doing some brilliant battles. But player of the match had to go to Maeve for a stint in goal, some unstoppable defending, stunning runs, and even a goal! The Clubs United player of the match (given to GDFC by Babe City) went to Alice for great energy in defence.

FCGD v Deptford Ravens (4-5 loss)

- POTM: Martha for strong defensive play with some great attacking runs. Scored their second ever goal for Goaldiggers!

- Very close match with loads of energy, non stop goals back and forth. Everyone played really well with loads of positive communication throughout.

Sunday Britannia Beginners League (4 August)

Despite the initial struggle to get a team together, we had Georgia I help us out (spectacular effort and saves in goal as well as smashing it outfield) and a phenomenal first ever ever  league debut from Pranjal (who smashed it)!!

We conceded fairly early, but in true goal digger style we continued to work as a team and Antoinette (who was Coach Brooke’s POTM for their stunning goals; excellent  constant hustles and skill); and managed to score 2 back for the diggers.

Corin was Captain Elaine’s POTM for their constant pressure and overall excellent defending and for making some good runs up top!

We lost 7-2; but we all gave 110% - an outstanding effort from everyone! It was a true showing of us all working  together from all different  abilities; with everyone most importantly LOVING the game.

Corin and Elaine

Finsbury Park Monday 5s (5 August)

Our Monday night match against Judas was a tough one (they’re a strong club - as we played, one of their other teams was simultaneously defeating another GDFC contingent in Stratford). As a spectator, I watched the whole team dig deep in the face of very stiff competition and punishing humidity. As someone rightly said - ‘we played well, but we were playing Barcelona.’

Captain Sophia kept spirits up throughout and had insightful direction at half time.

POTM went to Catherine for her positive attitude and the goal that kept it from being a total wipeout.

And shout out to Nina for playing on her birthday - and blocking at least twice as many goals as ended up going in!

Final score - much less important than the overall vibes.

(from reporter/fan Emily as my pathetic injury kept me in a supporting role on the side lines)

Chobham Monday 5s (6 August)

Having forgotten to take any pictures marking the momentous occasion whereby we somehow went from 1 player to 6 + a keeper within 24 hours, one has to imagine Antoinette, Miranda, Lou, Adday, Hannah, Scotty, and Deniz posing in a match photo.

Together, we managed to secure 3 goals in a very respectable 7-3 defeat to Judas. Overall, a great game with a beautiful mix of abilities giving everyone the opportunity to learn and develop their skills while putting up a fight. Special shout-out to Adday for amazing communication throughout and a warm Welcome Home to Miranda who was a strong defensive unit. POTM went to Scotty for some miraculous footwork, smart passing, and tracking back when needed (and of course the hat trick).

Colombo 5s (6 August)

GDFC v Cubs & GDFC v Free Rangers (3-2 win & 8-1 win)

- POTM: Niamh for non stop communication in both games, great in both defensive and attacking positions. Lots of quick passes and runs with a few goals thrown in there!

- The game against Cubs started off slow due to the heat but once we got into a rhythm and became more vocal with each other we worked really well with some great triangle passing all the way up the pitch which carried onto our game against Rangers.

Wednesday training players of the week (7 August)

Congrats to Dan, Mary, Ellen, Celia and ethos of the week for Ramune!
