SUNDAY BEGINNERS

Match report from Paula:

Another busy day of thrilling football for our Goals in the Super Liga Beginners Division with the alarms set early for our first game kicking off at the ungodly hour of 11:30am! A tough challenge too as we faced up soon to be confirmed champions Tribal FC. Though the game ended scoreless it was not for want of effort on both sides, though truth be told it was Goal Diggers who created the bulk of the opportunities going close on a number of occasions. Rachel in goal, in her first game back after injury was a rock as previously freescoring Tribal were frustrated at every turn. The second game should have been against Lush Lyfe but they had not arrived so we faced Brockwell United in a game rearranged after the previous meeting had been abandoned due to a serious injury to a Brockwell player. Luck did not favour us with Brockwell building a firm foundation courtesy of a couple of fortuitous goals. Goals did pull one back when Paula’s free kick was deflected past the keeper but it was not enough to change the result as our opponents added a third. Lush Lyfe had by now appeared so a friendly game was agreed, although we’d already been awarded the win and points. It was a cracking end to end game with plenty of action in front of goal though the long day was probably telling on tired Goal Digger legs as Lysh Lyfe claimed the victory. Player of the Day from captain Dee went to Rachel for solid keeping on her return from injury with special mentions for Miranda, making her Super Liga debut.
