INCLUSION AT GDFC

Hello lovely Goals,

We hope you’re doing well today, and getting ready for a great week.

My name is Liz (she/her) and I'm a committee rep for diversity and inclusion. The following message is about our continued commitment to trans inclusion if you wanted a quick content note.

You might have noticed that the UK is about to head into a summer of election chaos. We want to take this moment to say that we are a trans inclusive club, that will never change, and our trans and non-binary members will always have a place in football.

As a club, we’d like to do the following:

1. put out a public statement, reiterating our support for trans and non binary players, in case anyone got it twisted

2. Introduce a new Gender Participation role (more information to come)

As well as the above, we’ll be looking at refreshing our guidance for trans inclusion within the club, as well as taking steps to make sure other clubs in our community respect our players.

We also want to ensure trans members feel heard and supported in this, so if you have any ideas, questions, reflections, message me directly on 07535929026

However nasty the news cycle gets, you got love here at GDFC.

Liz and the committee xox

GET TO KNOW A GOAL!

Our new feature where we introduce you to a new Goal each week - starting with one of our new Newsletter secs, Emily!

Meet Emily (she/her)

Where do you play?

Up front at training (because our intermediate group is really lacking strikers), defence in Actual Real Games.

Favourite memory at GDFC?

Gaia gently persuading me into signing up to help out with the newsletter, naturally. Also, the month or two where we did post-training drinks in a black-walled basement room of a pub on Broadway market.

Two truths and a lie

I have lived in seven countries

I featured on dating reality show First Dates

I have never put petrol in my own car (but have been driving for over 10 years)

PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS

THURSDAY BEGINNERS 5s at Haggerston School (16 May)

We had our first game in the new Thurs league. It was a stunning eve, although the team lost 3-2. With goals from Alice and Iso C and lots of debuts it was a great game to watch. Capt SJ applauded the great passing and chemistry. Farida coached the team, and was impressed by the calmness and comms throughout. Shout out to Coach Millie (solid at the back) and Capt Potm - Iso who never stopped running.

THURSDAY BEGINNERS 5s at Haggerston School (30 May)

POTM: Isobel Coutinho for chasing down every single ball and scoring a cracker - top bins! Shout out to: Alice Keane for being so keen she posed in the team photo for the opposition

FOOTY ADDICTS 8 A SIDE TOURNAMENT ( 1June)

On Saturday, 9 of our players participated in the Footy Addicts 8 aside tournament, enduring 6 grueling hours of on and off football. We sailed through 6 games in the group stages with 3 clean sheets to reach the round of 16 where we won 2-1 on pens with an amazing goal in sudden death by Danielle Morris to put us ahead and the save to win it by Niamh O'Brien. In the quarter finals we were up against the top seeded team and put up a fight, losing 2-0 to knock us out of the tournament. The vibes were great, the free food was actually decent, and the individually packed branded water was a weird touch, but all in all it was a great day. Player of the match went to keeper Niamh for her incredible work between the sticks, her comms, and her positive encouragement which helped the team keep focus in our most difficult moments. Next year we're shooting for the semis!

MONDAY FINSBURY PARK 5s (3 June)

Despite a 3-0 loss to the not-so-UnAthletico Madrid team, the Goals played some of our best football yet and showed an impressive ability to keep our composure, spirit and focus despite being absolutely wrecked!! POTM went to Emily for repeatedly putting her body on the line and being a real thorn in UnAthletico Madrid’s side, helping to keep the scoreline less disastrous than it could have been…

[Editor's note - Beth very kindly did not mention that I cost the team a penalty with an instinctive hand ball, which Paula heroically saved for us]

TUESDAY 7s (4 June)

A particularly spritely KFC beat us 5-1 on Tuesday thanks to some capitalised opportunities but the scoresheet didn’t reflect what was otherwise a strong performance from the Goals. Well done to Lorraine for hitting the back of net early in the match, and to POTM Anna for expertly reading KFC’s runs and demonstrating aspirational skilled defending. Thanks to Captain Farida for keeping us motivated and professional on and off the pitch.

WEDNESDAY TRAINING (5th June)

This week's players of the week were Ramune, Florrie, Laura, Chloe, Izzy & Lorraine!

Ethos player went to Ruby for enthusiasm throughout the session. Well done all!
