MEET A GOAL
Gaby Pimental (she/her)

1) Where do you play?
I play mostly on the wing - but have had a bit of a taste of the striker life recently and I’m enjoying it.
2) What role do you hold on GDFC committee and is there anything you want to plug to readers?
I’m the 40+/all ages officer and LOVE IT. There is not greater joy than being at the arsenal hub on a Saturday afternoon, watching people have the time of their lives.
We run the sessions once a month and the longevity of 40+ is completely dependent on numbers, we are desperate for more sign ups to make sure we can keep running them - so please tell everyone you know! Next one is July 20th - link in the insta bio.
3) Favourite memory at GDFC?
This is so difficult - I’ve been at the club for around 6 years so there are so many. General favourite memories is Sunday 5s followed by a pint in the sun, you genuinely can’t beat it 🥰🥰
4) Two truths and a lie?
1) Annie Mac came to the first 40+ session
2) I was part of the infamous GDFC lockdown throuple
3) I play football in a pair of Leah Williamson’s old boots
read to the end to find out which is Gaby's lie...

PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS
CLUBS UNITED SUMMER 5s (22 June)
GDFC vs Booters
The team went into this match with high spirits, ready to take to the pyramid stage at goalstonbery (pitch two). The fans (Charlie’s friend, Tom) were revved up and ready to go. Less than two minutes in we saw one of the Booters trying to boot Shivs’ ankle out of Haggerston School, they had to sub out. GG jogged onto the pitch, with a look of revenge in her eye. Jess and Suzanne held the back, but the opposition were relentlessly going for goal. If it were not for some spectacular Suzie saves the score sheet would have been bleak. Booters somehow managed to make it through Suzie’s brilliant keeping, and took the lead, first 1-0 then 2-0. It was clear the diggers had been shaken by the prospect of foul play until a cheeky back of the net moment from GG. As the match and the day heated up beads of sweat began to form on the brows of the Booters, quaking and unable to intercept the cool triangle passes from Jess and Suzanne, up the pitch Charlie and Georgia which gave the pair a few more shots. With fresh legs and lifted spirits GDFC went into the second half with Charlie, Antoinette and pushing the ball up the pitch. Booters Keeper, Rima, put in a good shift which ultimately won her the GDFC player of the match. The constant attacks got too much for her, with GG managing a second goal into the side of the net in a blink and you missed it moment. Another goal from Booters, BUT WAIT! GG DRIVES THE BALL UP THE PITCH AND COULD IT BE?! A HATTRICK FROM OUR HERO! Beautiful scenes, the crowd (still just consisting of Charlie’s friend Tom) goes wild! The GDFC hustle is harder than ever, digging deeper than ever before. Charlie seemed to have invented teleportation during this game, being all over the pitch, sometimes in two places at once. After having had no rest, Charlie subbed out and we saw a rather unremarkable goal from Booters (it was actually quite good I’m just being petty).
The final score was 4-3. It was a beautiful day for football. A procession of millions took place later in central London to celebrate the nations Pride in the GDFC ethos.
GG got the player of the match from Booters. Charlie got a new sticker for the back of her phone, winning the captains player of the match.

MONDAY FINSBURY PARK 5s (1 July)
A heroic GDFC team played two back to back matches, a league game followed by a friendly - amazing effort considering we were one sub down. Although we (narrowly) lost both games, as always the ethos award was firmly ours. But Captain Abi's POTM went to Sophia for a gorgeous hat trick in the second game - great work!

MONDAY CHOBHAM STRATFORD 5s (1 July)
Coach Roseanna's succinct match report:
Defeat against Judas, but heads held high - ready for the rest of the season
Super Selina scored a beautiful one touch finish on her Chobham debut!!
Antoinette POTM - great footwork and passes forward, also getting back to block some crucial shots! Also iconic had an third in goal

WEDNESDAY TRAINING (3 July)
Congrats to all our lovely players of the week! Well deserved, the lot of you.
