TRAINING TOURNAMENT!
Tournament week is back! #12teams1dream
Every 2 months we do a massive tournament at training where everyone plays matches together for the whole two hours (with breaks!) Please RSVP if you can attend (comment if you're a keeper). This week's tournament is all about *getting to know new people in the club, enabling everyone to play their best football and celebrating team spirit*.
There will be 2 prizes for the goals that go above and beyond in making sure everyone is part of the team. Let's have a magic night!
TRAINING FEEDBACK
⚽️ Reminder from Coach Josh: we've got a feedback form where you can let us know your thoughts on training. Feel free to send this either straight after a session, or when it suits you during the week. ⚽️
👉 You can also feedback specifically on our all-abilities tournaments: We started doing all ability training tournaments a year ago. The idea was to provide opportunities for everyone in the club to meet each other and to reinforce our non-ability ethos. We wanted to check in about how you all found the training tournament two weeks ago. Please feedback here if you have any thoughts or comments, including if you enjoyed!
LAST FEW LIMITED EDITION SCARVES AVAILABLE IN THE SHOP
Have you noticed? It's getting colder! Better buy a SCARF. In the store right now we still have a few limited edition GDFC scarves available. They are only £12 and all proceeds go to the club. If you order now, you'll get your scarf in 3-4 weeks, just in time for when it starts to get truly cold.
DO YOU WANT TO BE A REF OR COACH?
The context: In the last 4 years there has been a massive increase in the provision of football clubs and leagues for women and non-binary players across London. These spaces often have significant LGBTQ+ players, but as they are relatively new spaces, we tend to see that the coaches and referees are predominantly cis, straight, white men who have transitioned from the men's game. For players that are newer to the game, having a coach or referee that you identify with can be a major factor in feeling included. If you feel represented in the main leaders of a space, you're more likely to join in. A solution:
We have successfully applied for a grant to help develop more LGBTQ+ women and non-binary coaches and referees. This includes qualification costs, paid opportunities while you learn and other relevant training. This can include those that are already qualified but want to progress in these areas. Could this be you? If you are LGBTQ+ and are interested in this, please get in touch with Gaia (membership@goaldiggersfootballclub.com). Please also share this with anyone you know who may be interested - it's open to anyone.
OUT FOR SPORT AWARDS NOMINATIONS
GDFC is a member of Out for Sport who are a really great collective of LGBTQ+ clubs in London. If you wish, you can nominate GDFC (or any other member club), for an award. The nomination process is 350 words. If you're interested, please see here for more details: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdU9EYRg0KLnWItvUZ1Np_f7hB8CT_BgjFpd7UTJpfXSCDGYg/viewform

PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS
TUESDAY 7S
Captain Lily had to give potm to Lorraine for lots of brave keeping. Was a delight to win 3-1 against the Islington kids ;)
TUESDAY CLUBS UNITED
Words from Captain Laura Jacobs: It was fun but frustrating night at Clubs United this week.
Despite Danielle and Beth’s twinkle toes, and Sam’s tenacious attack we couldn’t penetrate Ex Girlfriend’s defence. Foz left nothing on the pitch and Nina commanded the defence with her trademark determination. Extra special mention to Rachel for a shot stopping performance of a lifetime. The match ended 2-0 to Ex Girlfriend. Player of the match: Rachel
TRAINING
Another wonderful week at training. Well done to all our players of the week: Jodie, Frewyn, Marina, Julie & Shay!
SUNDAY 7S
Fleur reports: Sunday 7s was delightful this week - All Stars played a nail-biting hour long game against Legends. Beautiful triangles, beautiful team play and beautiful vibes. Legends - who were a joy to play against - won 3-2 in a truly 5 star derby. All Stars were then straight back at it and dug deep for a tasty draw against Inter FC.
Millie was player of the week but sadly we forgot to take a photo - so here is a picture of Millie living her best life on Friday night. Millie was a true asset on the wing - always in the right place, creating play and maximising on all opportunities. We love to see it.
Legends player of the week was River!
