MEET A GOAL
Name: Antoinette
Pronouns: They/He/She
Where do you play?
Attack!
Favourite GDFC memory?
That one time I played Sunday 8s against a very aggressive team and absolutely refused to let myself get pushed around by a big scary player. I dunno ... I guess that's some sort of metaphor for life. Oh and the referee called me "industrious" for it which made me feel really good.
Two truths and a lie?
1. My favourite author is H. G. Wells.
2. I really find pigeons quite cute
3. I grew up in Hackney.
Read to the bottom to find out which was a lie!
PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS
V Advanced Sunday 5s (14 July)
Two great matches from Legends, with some beautiful passing play. Even without subs everyone played brilliantly, and every single player (!) got a goal. POTM is Katy Covell for incredible defensive moves AND runs into attack.
Saturday Clubs Utd (13 July)
Saturday morning there were smiles all-round and a gorgeous get-go attitude in spades.....for digging deep.... ;)
We played another GDFC Team captained by Kidesh, and it was a tough game with some great shots all-round, ending up as a 2-2 draw.
Big shout out to Jay (Dee's POTM) for being an excellent defender, attacker, runner and a great header (see pic). And we picked Sam as our opposition POTM for silky skills and great footwork, whilst Kidesh's team picked Shiv as their POTM which was so well deserved (so much running)! Lastly, I just want to add this group picture to the newsletter because it's Saturday morning and we are all smiling, but also because of Scarlett and Suzie's epic posing - oh the drama!
GDFC Captain Kidesh’s POTM was Scarlet. Scar brought great energy to the game, demonstrated lots of support & encouragement for team mates & scored a beautiful goal within minutes of the game! It was a well matched game (thanks manager Sam!) with stunning goals from both sides. Special shoutout to Maz who did a great job as keeper in the second half, calmly handling a ping pong ball near the goal which had us all dazzled! Final score was 2-2.
Haggerston Thursday 5s (11 July)
On Thursday 11th we won our goalposts game (Haggerston school 5aside as seen on Diggers insta)
Dan, Millie and Isobel had some amazing goals, putting us at 3-2 against Deptford ravens. Our first win of the league. We’ve come so far as a team! Ramune won captain’s POTM for some amazing shots on goal and serious energy on the pitch and Millie won fan Elaine’s POTM for a fab goal and assist even from defence. Shoutout to Nic’s goalkeeping skills too which kept us in our winning position.
Chobham Monday 5s (15 July)
It was a tough out for the goal diggers from the get go with the opposition piling lots of pressure and scoring a fair few goals in the first half.
But despite this we kept on digging deep; and with a change in formation in the second half; we pulled off some really great passing and was unlucky to not get a goal! Player of the match was Aly; who bought superb vibes and excellent attitude throughout as well as showing some great skill and determination on the ball. Final Score- who cares ? We get a 20/10 for effort.
Wednesday night training (15 July)
Congrats to our players of the day - Emma, Becky, Jahnavi, AC and ethos for Ally!

Two truths and a lie from Antoinette - number three is the lie - they didn't grow up in Hackney, they are from Ealing and went to secondary school with SJ!
