SHOUT-OUTS
FRIENDLY 11s AGAINST CLAPTON CFC
Gaia reports: A great last minute chance to get ready for the season. Everyone did so well to keep going for 90 minutes with just one sub (thank you Hope!!). Captain River (she's back!) scored a beautiful goal and there were some great moments in play for the diggers.
Player of the match has to go to GK Paula for an unbelievable number of saves!
Well done to all the players for real pace power and a fantastic attitude!
Captain River reports:
GDFC put together 12 players who's presence at their home ground struck fear not only among the Clapton Women's First Team but also the 30 or more supporters who remained after the men's first team friendly which preceded the main attraction of the afternoon.
Despite the gruelling conditions and home field advantage, GDFC put up a fight to be proud of. As with so many Goal Diggers matches, the score-line didn't reflect the quality of football on display, and there is contention over the recorded final score of 14-1. Goal keeper Paula won player of the match having made spectacular diving saves on a pitch which had become as hard as concrete after weeks of dry conditions. Blood and sweat were a feature of the afternoon, but no tears, as even though we went through hell and back, we were all smiles after the match. It was a great kick off to the 11s season so please sign up for September #justkeepdigging
